Deep-dish meatball marinara pizza


Be inspired by America’s deep-dish pizzas and make our meatball marinara version with a lip-smacking sauce. It takes a little effort, but it’s well worth it.

Ingredients

For the dough
  • 500 g strong white bread flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 1 tsp salt
  • tsp fast-action dried yeast
  • ½ tbsp caster sugar
  • 5 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for greasing
  • 250-300 ml semi-skimmed milk
For the sauce
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 400 g cans chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato purée
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp caster sugar
For the meatballs
  • 300 g pork mince
  • 50 g fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium egg yolk
  • ½ tsp fennel seeds, crushed
  • 230 g grated mozzarella
  • 20 g Parmesan
  • ½ tbsp fine polenta
  • a few leaves oregano
